Update from our Impact Fund partners: June 2020

This month, we have updates from three Impact Fund partners:

  • Australian Centre for Corporate Responsibility
  • UNSW’s Indigenous Law Centre
  • Farmers for Climate Action.

AUSTRALASIAN CENTRE FOR CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

STRENGTHENING DEMOCRACY PARTNER

As part of its Qantas campaign to bring an end to involuntary transportation of immigration detainees, ACCR’s shareholder resolution recently resulted in the largest ever vote against a Board of Directors on a human rights issue in Australian corporate history.

Contact us to learn more about this initiative, as well as ACCR’s campaign on Free, Prior and Informed Consent for Aboriginal Traditional Owner communities.

UNSW INDIGENOUS LAW CENTRE

SUPPORTING INDIGENOUS SELF-DETERMINATION PARTNER

In 2019, the Impact Fund raised $150,000 for the University of New South Wales’ Indigenous Law Centre and its Voice, Treaty, Truth campaign to progress the Uluru Statement.

We’re delighted to share the latest video from the campaign, which will play a crucial role in raising awareness and moving the statement forward.

FARMERS FOR CLIMATE ACTION

SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT PARTNER

Farmers for Climate Action (FCA) received $150,000 from the Impact Fund in 2017 for their work in developing a national strategy on agriculture and climate change.

“The coronavirus pandemic has elevated the role of Australian farmers in feeding and clothing the world. With supermarket shelves stripped of essentials, many Australians have for the first time reflected on how and where their food comes from,” Verity writes.

“Farmers are on the frontline of Australia’s food security, however, this is a shared challenge. If you eat food, or wear clothes – you’re part of the solution to ensure the sustainability of Australian agriculture, along with genuine lasting food security.

“The good news is, solutions are available. We know what we need to do.

“This is where Farmers for Climate Action, in partnership with the philanthropic community steps in. As Australia’s only farmer-led organisation focused on climate change, we work across Australian agriculture and the broader community to support the implementation of climate solutions.  Via a program of farmer capacity building and advocacy at all levels of government, Farmers for Climate Action is working towards a sustainable, food-secure system for all Australians.”
