PROJECT SUMMARY
This project will facilitate the expansion of Arise Foundation’s crisis referral network and employment placement partnerships nationally. By increasing awareness and accessibility of our services across Australia we can provide more women DFV survivors with a pathway to sustainable independence and break the cycle of violence and poverty through:
1. Increasing organisational capacity through funding a part-time Project Manager to broaden stakeholder relationships with crisis centre referral partners, Arise Recovery Hub service partners, potential employers and all levels of government.
2. Increasing service delivery capability with increase in Employment Coach resources to cater to increased number of women participants in Arise programs and expedite job placements for Arise graduates.
The project is important as we are the only organisation in Australia offering employment training and paid employment placement services for domestic and financial abuse victim-survivors across industries, while addressing their domestic abuse-related trauma and providing both recovery and healing support via our Arise Recovery Hub and the primary point of access to AF’s services is via referral from crisis centres and DFV specialist services.
AF have developed strong relationships with a number of national crisis service providers, such as Two Good Co, The Salvation Army, and Good Shepherd as well as NSW-based providers such as Women’s Community Centre, and local providers such as Liberty Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Services in NSW Mid-North Coast, and this project will allow AF to develop additional state and local regional and metro-based crisis referral partners across all states and territories.
PROJECT OUTCOMES
Each year several hundred thousand Australian women experiencing domestic violence have two choices, violence or poverty . For the brave women – many with children - who attempt to escape violence, over 70% do so two or more times , citing lack of financial support and nowhere else to go as key reasons for returning to their violent partner. This lack of a pathway from Crisis to Recovery and Healing places a tremendous burden on already stretched domestic and family violence crisis services.
For DFV survivors, employment is a cornerstone for financial security that breaks the cycle for women and their children to recover and thrive following violence.
AF’s programs develop essential job skills and self-confidence for a cohort who can face significant barriers to employment – women DFV victim-survivors – and provide these women with employment pathways tailored to the unique skills and goals of each participant.
The aim of our project is to increase the awareness of and accessibility to AF programs for more women DFV survivors across Australia, and to expedite the tailored job placement outcomes for Arise Women. Employment outcomes, the breadth of geographic coverage of crisis referral partners and range of role and industry with employment partners will be actively measured.
Arise Academy’s programs are co-designed with those who have lived experience of DFV and are trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. Our beneficiaries are female DFV victims from CALD backgrounds, single mothers, unemployed or at-risk women over 45, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women living in Australia.
Arise Foundation Limited
Arise Foundation (AF) is an award-winning organisation providing innovative programs to women DFV survivors across Australia, breaking the cycle of homelessness and intergenerational violence and reducing the risk of returning to abusive relationships by equipping women with the skills and confidence to attain financial independence through employment.
AF addresses employment outcomes for women DFV survivors through a comprehensive, tailored approach:
• Job Placement: Our DFV-specialised, trauma-informed employment coach, works one-on-one with women to secure suitable job placements. In 2023, 81% of our Employment Ready Program graduates obtained either internships, work experience, paid employment or pursued education with guaranteed employment.
• Skill Development necessary for Employment: Our signature Employment Ready Program (with modules including, empowerment and wellbeing, financial literacy and foundational work skills), along with pre-employment English and Digital Literacy training, equips women with essential job skills. This directly improves their employability and job-readiness.
• Employer Partnerships: We've cultivated relationships with employment partners across various industries, this includes our cadetship program with Wotton & Kearney, Allianz, and Healthshare NSW, creating direct pathways to job opportunities for our clients.
• Barrier Removal: We provide free laptops, WiFi, and childcare support, removing common barriers that prevent women from seeking or maintaining employment.
• Ongoing Support: Our recovery case worker assists clients with day-to-day challenges, ensuring they can focus on maintaining employment once placed.
• Industry Diversity and Entrepreneurship Support: We've successfully placed women in various sectors including early childhood, aged care, hospitality, and administrative roles, and offer self-employment support, ensuring diverse employment options.
