Dementia Australia

Dementia Australia is the national peak body for people living with dementia, their families and carers. They are the trusted source of information, education and services for Australians impacted by dementia. Founded by carers more than 40 years ago, their work is grounded in lived experience and shaped by the people they support.

Dementia affects more than 446,500 Australians and the 1.7 million people who support them. It is the leading cause of death in Australia and one of the most significant health and social challenges facing our communities today.

Dementia Australia’s purpose is to reduce the impact of dementia for people of all ages.

They support people impacted by dementia to live as well as possible through information, connection, education and practical support when it is needed most. Alongside this, they work with health and aged care professionals to strengthen understanding and capability and contribute to research and innovation that improves how dementia is understood and experienced.

As the national voice for people impacted by dementia, Dementia Australia advocates for better systems, greater awareness and more dementia friendly communities. Everything they do is shaped by lived experience, ensuring the voices of people living with dementia, their families and carers remain at the centre of their work.
