FoodFilled

FoodFilled is a volunteer-powered food rescue charity. We supply the frontline food relief agencies that feed Victorians facing food insecurity. Our volunteers collect surplus food from local supermarkets, bakeries and grocery stores and deliver it directly to a nearby food relief program. Since 2018, more than 1,800 volunteers have rescued enough food to provide over 1.2 million meals, for our network of 200 food relief agencies.

Food insecurity in Victoria continues to rise while edible food goes to landfill, and the agencies responding are stretched. Without trucks, paid drivers or warehousing, FoodFilled’s model mobilises the community to be part of the solution. Our volunteers redistribute food seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays. Major supermarkets partner with us for regular collections, and we service smaller retailers that would otherwise be overlooked. Our grassroots model provides a meal for $1.

Empowering communities through volunteering matters as much as the food. We connect young people to the cause by engaging L-Platers to complete food rescue shifts within their 120 supervised hours, and our school education programs shape how young Victorians think about food waste and hunger. Our All-Abilities volunteer program partners with disability support providers so people of every ability can make a difference in their community.

Demand runs ahead of capacity. Agencies are reaching out for support, and major retailers are approaching us to solve their food waste issue. Funding grows the volunteer base and the small staff team who coordinate it, so we can scale our impact.
