Friends of Australian Rock Art (FARA)

FARA is a small voluntary not for profit organisation founded in 2006 to ‘protect, preserve and promote’ the ancient 50,000 year old Aboriginal rock art of Murujuga, outside Karratha in WA’s Pilbara, from increasing industrial emissions from the LNG industry.

After years of challenging a ‘captured’ WA government with scientific evidence that the rock art is being destroyed and then hearing about the recent approvals by both WA & Federal governments that Woodside’s LNG plant could continue its massive polluting until 2070, we have accepted that legal action is our only recourse. Our case in the Federal court is from 21-25 July, and we will argue that Minister Watt ignored the evidence before him and chose to favour Woodside’s economic arguments over the protection of cultural heritage and the exacerbation of climate change. Our WA case will then be heard in late November on similar grounds. These will be landmark cases.

But legal cases are expensive and we would appreciate public financial support in order to pay our amazing team of lawyers and barristers who have prepared this plucky little David to finally meet and fell the mighty Goliath who has held our governments to ransom for too long.
