Gawura

Gawura School is a 100% First Nations day-school from Kindergarten to Year 6, located in the heart of Sydney CBD. At Gawura School students walk confidently in two-worlds, grounded in ancient culture and guided by knowledge. With a distinct, award-winning approach, our students receive a quality education, within small class-sizes, with high-expectations, built on a deep care for heritage, culture, the child and their family.

Linking culture to education, Gawura School provides a strong platform for wellbeing, confidence and educational and academic progress to occur. When a student commences with us in Kindergarten, on average they are 18 months behind the NSW average. Yet in 2025 our Year 5 NAPLAN results were higher than NSW average in all criteria, demonstrating the strength in our innovative approach. Along with this, other successes included higher than average school attendance rates and wellbeing measures. When our students graduate Year 6, they are offered a position within St Andrew’s Cathedral School. This is a 13-year full scholarship option for each student.

While government funding is received, there is a vast funding gap between what is received and cost of our high intensity, award-winning approach and therefore there is a heavy reliance upon philanthropy. Gawura School Foundation has a DGR1 status with donations being tax deductible.
