Home Address Australia Ltd (HAA) is an independent, lived experience led charity working to improve how homelessness is understood, prevented and addressed. We listen to people affected by homelessness, research the barriers that keep people trapped in crisis, educate professional workforces, and advocate for practical systems change.

HAA is led by Dr Gregory P. Smith OAM, a sociologist, author and nationally recognised lived experience expert who experienced long-term homelessness before completing doctoral research into marginalisation and social exclusion. HAA combines lived experience, academic evidence, trauma-informed practice and regional knowledge to help organisations recognise hidden homelessness earlier and respond more safely and effectively.

In 2026, HAA was commissioned by Western NSW Primary Health Network to deliver trauma-informed homelessness education across Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo and Broken Hill. HAA is also preparing to pilot Lived Experience in Action in Orange with support from Newcastle Permanent. The program helps people move from having lived experience to contributing safely, ethically and professionally to education, policy, service design and organisational change.

HAA’s immediate priority is flexible, preferably multi-year funding for core staffing. Demand for its education, lived-experience expertise, research and policy contribution is growing, but delivery currently depends on a very small leadership team carrying most organisational functions. Funding will support program and operations coordination, education and resource development, research and advocacy, partnerships, evaluation, administration, and paid lived-experience and Aboriginal cultural expertise. This investment will enable HAA to expand regional education, complete and document the Orange pilot, develop sustainable earned income and prepare Lived Experience in Action for broader reach.
