Ladybird Care Foundation addresses one of life’s most devastating experiences: the death of a child. Overlooked, grief has the potential to become an insurmountable challenge without timely, non-clinical, compassionate support.

Ladybird Care Foundation’s vision is a community where every parent is supported after the death of a child. They connect bereaved parents with peers and communities, fostering belonging and the possibility of sustained hope, purpose and meaning.

Ladybird Care Foundation fills a critical gap in bereavement care after child loss by shifting support from short-term, medicalised responses to sustained, community-based connection. Operating nationally, their free, evidence-based Peer Mentor Program creates meaningful, lasting change in the lives of grieving parents across Australia. Bereaved parents who are at least two years into their own grief journey are screened and trained as Mentors and carefully matched with newly bereaved parents. Each match is supported over a semi-structured 15-month period, with regular connection via phone, text, email and in-person. Peer Mentors provide companionship in grief, offering understanding, empathy and hope grounded in lived experience. They understand the complexity of child loss and reflect the diversity of the families they support.

All Mentors are trained and supported by Ladybird Care Foundation staff with expertise in Social Work, Trauma-Informed care, Psychology and Grief Counselling.
