Lokahi Foundation

The Lokahi Foundation is a domestic and family abuse support service based in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. They provide long-term, specialised case management to empower victim-survivors to reclaim their lives, achieve safety and heal from trauma. At its core, case management is about transforming lives through individualised care.

Lokahi caseworkers work tirelessly to support clients living in crisis, supporting them to flee abuse and rebuild their lives. Support offered is based on what clients need, is flexible and is not time-limited. When clients are safe, stable and are ready to move forward, Lokahi offers an Empowerment Program, consisting of a personal development program called ‘Shine’ and a monthly support session for Lokahi clients focused on healing and rebuilding their support networks, called ‘Coffee and Connect’. Lokahi also operates a pantry for their clients, which is stocked with food, toiletries and other daily necessities.

Lokahi truly believe that the provision of a consistent caseworker for as long as needed will reduce the number of times women unsuccessfully attempt to escape a violent partner. They pride themselves on supporting women and children through their whole journey, not only when they are in crisis, because they recognise the impact of trauma has long-lasting impacts on women and children which can take years to heal. This is evidenced by their success rate: 97% of Lokahi clients do not return to domestic and family abuse.
