Melanoma Patients Australia

Since 2006, Melanoma Patients Australia has been Australia’s only dedicated national patient organisation providing practical and compassionate specialist support for anyone affected by melanoma. Our vision is a nation where no one affected by melanoma walks alone and our purpose is to support, connect and advocate for all Australians affected by melanoma.

In Australia, one person is diagnosed with melanoma every 30 minutes, and one Australian dies from the disease every six hours. In 2025, an estimated 1,455 Australians lost their lives to melanoma.

Our programs and services are grounded in lived-experience, clinical best practice and nurse-led care. We provide free services such as a Nurse Telehealth Service, peer-to-peer support program, lived experience volunteer network, and health education resources for patients, survivors and carers. To date, we have reached over 38,000 patients with direct support, and many more with advocacy and information services over the last 20 years.

Our current priorities are:
• To increase access to our existing specialist nurse-led services for regional and remote Australians.
• To develop and implement dedicated melanoma patient survivorship program that will respond to the complex treatment side-effects for long-term melanoma patient survivors.

Funding will support our organisation to increase service referrals with GP’s, skin cancer specialists, hospitals and health service providers to ensure melanoma patients wherever they live in Australia from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond are directly connected to our specialist support services as early as possible to provide them with trusted, evidence-based navigation and support specific to their personalised needs.
