- People experiencing or at risk of homelessness
Domestic and family violence is the single largest driver of homelessness for women in Australia. The lack of safe and accessible employment and opportunities to establish financial independence can make it extremely difficult and dangerous to leave abusive environments.
Mettle is a charity that operates a social enterprise, a national gifting service, that trains & employs women who have experienced homelessness as a result of domestic and family violence. As a work integrated social enterprise, they offer wrap around services that provide victim-survivors with study scholarships, childcare subsidies, crisis funds, rental funds & dedicated employment case work, enabling women to graduate after 6-12 months into stable employment. 96% of graduates from Mettle’s employment program have not returned to their abuser or to homelessness.
In 2025/26, Mettle is implementing a number of specialised outreach programs that aims to reach 500 women residing in shelters and refuges to access survivor-designed employment services.
