Neuromuscular WA

Neuromuscular WA is a for-purpose organisation passionate about enhancing the quality of life, happiness and wellbeing of people living with neuromuscular conditions in WA. Neuromuscular conditions are a group of rare conditions that impact muscles and the nervous system supporting them, causing muscle wasting and weakness. Walking, speaking, breathing and lifting can all be affected, with many relying on mobility equipment and assistance with daily tasks. These conditions can affect people at different stages of their lives and onset of symptoms can occur from birth to adulthood. The rate of progression and pattern of inheritance also varies depending on the condition and the individual. There is currently no cure.

Since their inception in 1967, Neuromuscular WA have flexed their free services in line with the community’s needs, taking a holistic approach by offering support through assistance in navigating mainstream systems, education, counselling, advocacy, equipment, NDIS support and social programs. Their social and capacity building programs foster friendships, inclusivity, resilience and connections to others living with the same challenges. These free services underpin any medical treatment they are receiving and are just as crucial as continued investment into research, innovative therapies and clinical care. It’s what Neuromuscular WA call Support for Life, as they aim to provide this for as long as it’s needed.
