Parents of Deaf Children

For more than 60 years, Parents of Deaf Children (PODC) has connected families with something no handbook or website can provide people who have lived the journey themselves.

When a child is diagnosed as Deaf or hard of hearing, most families are entering an unfamiliar world. They are suddenly faced with complex decisions about hearing technology, communication approaches, early intervention, education, the NDIS, inclusion and their child’s future. For many, the system is overwhelming, leaving families isolated and unsure where to turn.

PODC provides trusted, independent peer support, practical information and community connection to help families navigate these challenges with confidence. Through accessible, family-centred support, we ensure families from diverse backgrounds can access guidance that respects their individual circumstances and choices.

We bring families together through social events where children, siblings, parents and carers build lasting friendships and reduce isolation. We also deliver workshops that strengthen families’ knowledge and confidence in navigating education, health services, hearing technology and the NDIS.

Beyond supporting individual families, PODC advocates for lasting systemic change through policy submissions and engagement with government, helping create more inclusive services and better outcomes for Deaf and hard of hearing children and their families.
