PowerWells Foundation is an Australian registered charity tackling two of the world’s most urgent crises at once: energy poverty in remote communities and the global epidemic of electronic waste.

Millions of people across Australia and the Indo-Pacific live without reliable electricity, relying on expensive diesel generators or open-flame fuels that damage health and trap families in poverty. At the same time, discarded laptops, screens, and batteries pile up in landfill, leaching toxins into soil and waterways.

PowerWells closes the loop. We repurpose lithium-ion batteries and e-waste into affordable solar home systems, then deploy them into off-grid households and community facilities where they are needed most. Every system represents a battery diverted from landfill and a family freed from fossil fuels.

To date, PowerWells has deployed more than 1,300 solar systems across First Nations communities in Australia and partner communities in Vanuatu, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. More than 15,000 people now have access to clean, affordable energy and over 12 tonnes of lithium-ion batteries have been diverted from landfill.

In Australia, our work centres on First Nations communities in remote Queensland, combining solar deployment with hands-on STEM education so young people gain the skills to build and maintain their own energy future.
