For nearly 15 years, SharingStories has worked in partnerships with First Nations communities supporting language revitalisation, cultural transmission and creative storytelling. Recognised as a culturally safe broker, they deliver tailored, community-based programs. Their programs are developed in response to community priorities, with implementation plans tailored to cultural protocols, aspirations and language context. All initiatives evolve in direct response to needs identified by communities themselves.
SharingStories’ goal is to ensure First Nations young people and communities remain strong and connected to Culture and Country, while creating pathways for systems and institutions to recognise, centre and value First Nations knowledge for collective wellbeing.
Over the last four years alone, more than 2,763 First Nations participants from 52 communities have contributed over 27,000 hours to the teaching, creation, co-curation and public presentation of language and cultural knowledge. Historical support from Indigenous Languages and Arts has been instrumental in enabling development of 13 bilingual digital books, 9 permanent language exhibitions, an interactive app, a community Digital Keeping Place which holds 3 language dictionaries and over 90 learning resources for sharing language and culture.
