St Patrick’s Community Support Centre is a not-for-profit providing community housing and specialist support services for people facing homelessness. They have been working side-by-side with vulnerable people in the south metropolitan region of Perth, Western Australia for over 50 years. Their targeted services are aimed at people aged 16 and over, including couples and families, who are experiencing rough sleeping or significant disadvantage. St Pats’ vision is that all people have the opportunity to live securely and achieve their potential, and their mission is to lead bold action to end homelessness.
Three years ago, guided by their Aboriginal Advisory Group of Elders and emerging leaders, and originally funded by a legacy gift, St Pats established the Djenabidet Kalleep program. Djenabidet Kalleep (Footpath Home in the Noongar language) is a trauma informed, mob-centred service where dignity, respect and compassion are practiced. The Program provides assertive outreach, lived-experience peer navigation, housing support and culturally appropriate and specific health connections to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people in the community experiencing homelessness, and has been nationally recognised and awarded. St Pats is now seeking philanthropic funding to continue Djenabidet Kalleep’s critical work beyond 2026. Funding will support staffing of this Program until such time as a long-term government funding solution can be found.
