The Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Foundation

Established in 1990, the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Foundation (ICF) is dedicated to improving the care treatment, and quality of life for critically ill people in Australia and New Zealand. Our ultimate aim is to improve both the number and quality of lives saved in intensive care.

The Foundation provides grants for research, education, and professional development for ICU health professionals (nurses, Doctors, physiotherapists, dieticians, pharmacists) across both countries. The Foundation also raises awareness of intensive care throughout the community, highlighting the life-saving work performed daily by intensive care doctors, nurses and researchers who are dedicated to saving lives.

Australia and New Zealand are recognised as global leaders in intensive care, with standards and survival rates that set benchmarks worldwide. It is through research that we elevate the standard of care provided in ICUs, see advancements in treatment options, the development of new diagnostic tools, and the adoption of evidence-based practices.

We represent the entire intensive care community across Australia and New Zealand, both public and private hospitals advocating for the field as a whole. Governments fund good intensive care but don’t fund the excellence that the Intensive Care Foundation is striving for. Care that significantly improves patient survival and quality of life requires additional resources beyond what public funding offers.
