The Lumina Project is a national Australian charity established to ensure no parent faces immediate financial hardship following the death of a child (post-birth).
We provide one off emergency financial assistance to bereaved families through a professional referral pathway designed to be low burden, trauma informed and dignity first. Families are not required to complete forms, provide testimonials, or account for spending. Our model prioritises trust, containment and careful pacing.
Following the death of a child, families often experience sudden financial pressure due to funeral costs, loss of income, rent or essential living expenses. Small, rapid support at this moment can stabilise households and reduce secondary stress during acute grief.
Lumina operates nationally with no postcode restrictions. Our pilot phase is active and includes repeat hospital-based referrals, demonstrating early proof of concept and clinical trust.
In addition to direct support, Lumina is developing a national advocacy agenda focused on improving compassionate leave and workplace responses, with the long-term aim of reducing structural financial vulnerability for bereaved parents.
Funding strengthens our emergency response capacity and supports the minimal operational backbone required to deliver assistance safely and consistently.
