Underneath My Umbrella

Underneath My Umbrella supports women impacted by family violence by helping them restore their value, find their voice and share their story, through the provision of creative arts drop in spaces and annual special art projects.

Underneath My Umbrella’s creative arts drop in spaces are a mid space – not a counselling space – for women on the recovery journey. By providing no registration, no cost connection and conversation with women who wholeheartedly understand the journey and provision of creative arts activities that explore identity, value and self worth. These drop in spaces are a simple framework allowing attendees to navigate their own recovery, allow for women to ask questions and invites family members or women supporting someone impacted or still in an abusive relationship to enter in and chat with someone without being tracked, seen or drawing attention by attending the frontline DV services. No wait list and centred within discreet community locations including libraries. They do it for the one person who turns up

The annual Share Your Story project brings together survivors to narrate their recovery story, artists to reflect that story and creative photography to personalise the message without identifying the survivor. These compilations are taken into community exhibitions for empowerment, education and encouragement about the freedom journey and provide core information not easily accessed by legislators.
