Uni Camp for Kids

Since 1936, Uni Camp for Kids (Uni Camp) and its young volunteers have created life-changing experiences for disadvantaged children alongside the WA community. As Perth’s oldest registered children’s charity, we remain a volunteer organisation run entirely by university students, providing recreational opportunities for children across Perth who experience emotional, social, or financial disadvantage, helping them build confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging.

Each year Uni Camp runs four day-long picnics where volunteers take children to designated venues, including parks and aquatic centres, for a day of laughter and adventure and two week-long Summer Camps at Point Peron Camp School. Providing opportunities for children to form meaningful connections, interact with positive role models, and enjoy new experiences.

Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child recognises the importance of play in supporting physical, emotional and cognitive development. However, The Smith Family found that 41.6% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds lack access to recreational opportunities, such as sports or cultural programs outside of school hours. Uni Camp bridges this gap by prioritising every child’s right to recreation.

To ensure our programs reach those most in need, referrals are received through trusted organisations, including the Department of Communities, The Smith Family, Parkerville Children and Youth Care and Uniting WA. This collaborative approach guarantees support is targeted to children experiencing acute social, emotional, or financial hardship.
