Women’s Spirit Project (WSP) supports women experiencing disadvantage in Frankston, Casey and the Mornington Peninsula through free, evidence-informed programs built on movement, connection and mindfulness. Founded in 2018, WSP is a grassroots initiative now in its eighth year, powered by 65 volunteers contributing more than 3,500 hours annually. Our vision is a national movement where every woman who rebuilds herself becomes her family’s foundation, her community’s future and her generation’s inheritance.
One in four Australian women will experience domestic and family violence. Locally, the need is acute: around five family violence reports are made daily in the Frankston LGA, and the Mornington Peninsula records the highest rough-sleeping numbers of any Victorian LGA, with no government-funded crisis accommodation.
Beneath these crises sits isolation: when a woman loses her home, income or safety, social connections often fall away. More than one in three Australian adults report loneliness women more than men and isolation is a key barrier to rebuilding. Crisis services keep women safe, but safety is not the same as connection. WSP addresses this gap through its ten-week Spirit of Transformation program, hybrid workshop and online programs, monthly Catch Up & Connect walks, Seasonal Circles and the 60km Frank to Schanck walk.
WSP is independently evaluated by Monash University: 100% of graduates and mentors report life-changing impact across outcomes including mental health, resilience, family engagement, community connectedness and expanded social networks. Demand exceeds capacity and WSP holds a waiting list. Funding will open program places and support growth.
