Workers' Educational Association Illawarra

WEA Co is a not-for-profit education group based in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, continuing a legacy that began with WEA in 1913. For over a century they’ve believed in rewriting the future for the people they work with, seeing potential where others see limits.

WEA Co work across three parts of the community. Novo Education Space is a Special Assistance School supporting young people aged 15 to 17 who’ve experienced trauma, anxiety or neurodivergence, and who’ve often been excluded from mainstream schooling. WEA Co give them a safe, trauma-aware environment to rebuild confidence, gain practical skills and find a genuine pathway forward. The Community College supports adult learners balancing work and family, offering flexible, affordable training in foundational skills, vocational qualifications and lifelong learning. And through their Corporate Partners work, they help local businesses upskill their workforce and strengthen their communities.

What ties all three together is a belief that education should meet people where they are. They’re student-led, responsive to individual need, and focused on outcomes that matter in the real world: independence, employment, confidence and connection.

WEA Co holds DGR and PBI status, and their work sits at the intersection of education, mental health and community resilience, addressing disadvantage that’s often intergenerational and complex.

They break barriers and build skills, transforming lives and organisations through learning that inspires, connects and empowers. It’s why they call their approach Beyond the Ordinary: because the young people, adult learners and businesses they work with deserve more than a standard path.
