Riding for the disabled association NSW Riding for the disabled association NSW

The primary objective of Riding for the Disabled (NSW) is to provide people with a disability, the opportunity to ride and drive and enjoy all the activities connected with horse riding. Riding for
people with a disability is both therapeutic and recreational and RDA (NSW) is in fact one of the few organisations to offer a multi- diagnostic service, catering for people with a wide range of disabilities.

The objectives of RDA (NSW) are to encourage, support and assist Centres to provide riding therapy, sport, recreation, connections, training and safety programs for people with disabilities.
RDA (NSW) offers horse riding, carriage driving, dressage, mounted games and Equine Facilitated Mental Health and Learning (EFMH&L) and caters for people with physical, intellectual and
psychosocial disabilities.

RDA (NSW) currently has 31 Centres spread throughout NSW with 90% of Centres based in regional areas. The Centres cater for 1,042 riders annually and are supported by our volunteers. Our
community therefore embraces the Centres and the volunteer infrastructure. To adequately support riders with disabilities RDA (NSW) adopts a person-centric focus where all support services are focused on the rider to create a practical, life- changing experience.

Project Summary

We invite our centre committees and coaches to participate in our upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). We encourage at least six representatives from each centre to attend or more.

The AGM will provide an opportunity to:
– Receive updates on the constitution
– Review changes to policies and procedures
– Stay informed about organisational developments

The more we can have in attendance will ensure your centre is well-represented and informed.

Project Outcomes

We're organising a social and formal gathering with a focus on updating our coaches, assistant coaches, trainee coaches, and committee members on the following essential topics:
- NDIS policies and the changes involved with Horse related therapy
- Sports inclusion for people living with disabilities, intellectual, physical and mental health
- Risk management and emergency procedures
- Horse care and management best practices

This event aims to ensure that all aspects of our RTO training program are understood and implemented consistently across our centres.

As volunteers, it's crucial we're equipped with the latest knowledge to provide the best possible experience for our participants.
