Animal Welfare League Hawkesbury Valley Branch is dedicated to the protection and welfare of animals. We strive to provide a safe and loving environment for abandoned, neglected and surrendered animals, with the goal of finding them permanent, happy homes. With a range of services including adoption, our reTail Hub and community programs, we are dedicated to improving the lives of animals and promoting responsible pet ownership across the Hawkesbury Valley in New South Wales. The branch has been operating for well over ten years and is entrenched and well regarded in the community as being able to provide support to people experiencing hardship in providing support for their beloved pets. We provide subsidised desexing in the community for those unable to afford the full cost and this in turns reduces the numbers of unwanted litters that would need to be rehomed and themselves desexed.
Project Summary
We assist pensioners and low-income earners with access to discounted desexing for their pets in the Hawkesbury and Penrith local government areas. We have an online system where people can apply and prepay for a subsidised desexing voucher. This is then approved at a branch level when the conditions are met.
The pet owner takes the animal to the vet, their payment is applied, according to the animals weight, and the vet service invoices us for the remainder of the invoice cost. We would be using funding to pay for those vet bills so that there is continued desexing in our community to reduce unwanted litters and animals.
Project Outcomes
Goal: Desexing of 150 animals - both cats and dogs in the Hawkesbury Valley Branch Community Desexing Program
Achieved by: reconciling vet invoices to the applied vouchers by consumers.
Actions: we can also manage the vouchers to be identified as those used by the project so that identification is easily achieved to know when we have reached the target.
