We support women not just to survive domestic and family violence but to thrive, knowing that by doing so, we can break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and violence
Project Summary
The Zahra Foundation’s 9-week Empowerment Program has been a vital resource for
women who have experienced domestic and family violence, helping them rebuild their lives and create pathways to employment, education, and training. For nearly nine years, we’ve delivered this program face-to-face in South Australia, using an adult learning framework guided by trauma-informed educators.
We’re aware that many women face significant barriers to accessing our program, particularly those in remote and regional areas, people with disabilities, single parents, carers, and those without nearby services or transport options. To address this, we’re taking the Empowerment Program online, so women across Australia can benefit from it, no
matter where they live.
The program is structured into four 9-week courses, designed to be completed over 12 months. It helps participants build confidence, develop a sense of self, and have a pathway into employment, education, or training. By moving this program online, we’re making sure that every woman who needs it can access the support necessary to take control of her life and break free from violence.
This project isn’t just about expanding our reach; its about giving women the tools they need to change their lives. Through this digital platform, were opening up opportunities for women across Australia to find the strength, confidence, and skills to build a better future.
Project Outcomes
The digitization of the Zahra Foundation’s 9-week Empowerment Program will significantly expand its reach, making this transformative initiative accessible to women across Australia who are survivors of domestic and family violence. The expected outcomes of this project include increased accessibility to essential support services for individuals in remote and regional areas, those with disabilities, single parents, carers, and others who face barriers to attending face-to-face sessions.
By providing this program online, we anticipate a substantial increase in the number of women who can access the support they need to rebuild their lives. This digital platform will offer flexible learning opportunities, allowing participants to engage with the program at their own pace and in a safe environment, regardless of their location or personal circumstances. The impact of this project will be profound. Women who previously had no access to such programs will now be empowered to develop self-confidence, set achievable goals, and create pathways to employment, education, or training.
