Project Summary

We are a small non-profit theatre group located in Northern NSW, who work to present shows of various types that include members of our community.

The show we are currently working on is called Drinking Habits by Tom Smith: Two nuns at the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing have been secretly making wine to keep the convent’s doors open, but Paul and Sally, reporters and former romantic couple, are hot on their trail. They go undercover as a nun and priest, but their presence, combined with the addition of a new nun, spurs paranoia throughout the convent that spies have been sent from Rome to shut them down.

This is a traditional farce including cases of mistaken identity, false accusations and romance.

It is our first project with a new director, Roaslind Muir-Smith, who brings years of theatre experience to our small community. It promises to bring together many members of our community, young and old.

Project Outcomes

To present a show for the enjoyment of our community, encouraging support of the arts, and attended by members of our community who might not otherwise be able to enjoy a live production. We recently lost the use of the only community performing venue in our area, and as a result have had to start renting private venues for our events, but as the nearest active theatre to our area is 40 minutes away, we feel it is important for our organisation to continue to find alternate venues and projects that will allow us to serve our community. It is also the only opportunity for some of our community members to participate and learn about what goes into presenting a stage production. We also use these opportunities to seek feedback from community members on how we can support them in future projects and events. This will also allow us to seek out suggestions for future events and workshops to continue our support of creativity and performing arts.
