Camp Breakaway's Mission is to uphold human rights and create change in the lives of people living with disabilities and the community as a whole, ensuring social inclusion and participation and at the same time enabling respite relief for their families and carers.
Our Vision is to promote self-inclusive environments and experiences that capture individual development and confidence and pave the way for equitable opportunities for self-inclusion and community connection.
A DGR not-for-profit, Breakaway is a registered service provider for the NDIS, and registered substitute residential care provider (SSRC) with the NSW Office of Children's Guardian and has operated for 41 years. Respite support programs are held monthly for groups of up to twenty people living with disabilities. Person-centred activities and exciting programs enable our participants to experience new things whilst developing life skills, building confidence, independence and forming friendships. Set on 25 acres on the NSW Central Coast, the organisation has 16 accessible and self-contained cabins, 8 ‘A-Frame’ cabins as well as powered caravan sites for hire. Two function rooms and a large hall with commercial kitchen are also available for hire when programs are not running. Anyone with NDIS funding Australia wide can access the support programs. Programs include Adult, School Holiday, Autism Spectrum support and Tailored respite. A Registered Nurse is onsite, and Disability Support Workers assist participants during the four-day programs.
Project Summary
Camp Breakaway is set on 25 acres of tranquil parkland surrounded by bush. The project is to replace the anchored PVC jumping pillow and blower motor to ensure this ageing, but well loved recreational equipment can continue to provide safe fun outdoor activity for our younger support program participants.
Breakaway would also purchase 2 wheelchair accessible outdoor tables so people using wheelchairs can sit with their friends and peers at the same table. The tables are marine grade aluminium and have an interactive setting, enabling two wheelchairs to fit comfortably at one table. Our project will encourage people to get outdoors and socialise for years to come.
