Noble Park Community Centre Noble Park Community Centre

Noble Park Community Centre is a not-for-profit organization based in Noble Park, approximately 26km south-east of Melbourne, committed to the principles of community development including inclusion, empowerment, responsiveness, equity, integrity, and sustainability. We are run by the community for the community. We celebrate diversity by providing an inclusive and welcoming environment where members and supporters can meet, socialize, and learn.

We offer a broad range of classes and programs to empower participants to explore new skills and gain confidence in all areas of life.

The Noble Park Community Centre was established in 1956 to engage the local youth within Noble Park via numerous recreational activities such as gymnastics, indoor bowls, and basketball. The aim of the center was to offer a productive outlet for recreation and provide young people with a sense of inclusion within their community. Since its inception the Centre has become a member of Neighborhood House Victoria and taken on a model of social inclusion and engagement.

Over the last 67 years the Centre has evolved to meet the changing needs of the local community, adding more recreational activities such as calisthenics, tai chi and yoga, and including programs such as English classes, and cultural groups for the growing multicultural communities.

Project Summary

The Noble Park Community Centre is working on a Historical Signage Initiative to design, build, and install a series of historical signs throughout the community center grounds. This project aims to celebrate and preserve the rich history of Noble Park, fostering a deeper connection between the community and its heritage.

Each sign will feature carefully curated material, including historical photographs, narratives, and significant milestones that have shaped the community. By collaborating with local historians, artists, and community members, we will ensure the accuracy and cultural relevance of the information presented. The signs will be strategically placed at various key locations, guiding visitors on an informative journey through the past.

The project will involve four phases: historical research and community engagement, designing the signs, fabrication, and installation. Community engagement is a cornerstone of our approach, and we will consultation with the community to gather stories and insights from residents, ensuring the project reflects the diverse voices and experiences of Noble Park.

Through this initiative, we aim to enhance community cohesion and provide an educational resource for locals and visitors. With the help of this grant, we will create a lasting tribute to the history of Noble Park, enriching the community’s cultural landscape and fostering a sense of shared heritage for future generations.

Project Outcomes

The Historical Sign Initiative by the Noble Park Community Centre aims to achieve several key outcomes that benefit both the community and the centre.
- Preservation of Local History: The initiative seeks to preserve and commemorate significant historical events, figures, and artistic achievements within the Noble Park Community Centre. This will help maintain a connection to the community's past and foster a sense of pride among residents.
- Educational Opportunities: This initiative will educate both residents and visitors by providing information about the history of the Noble Park Community Centre. This can enhance local knowledge and appreciation for the community's heritage, making history more accessible and engaging.
- Cultural Enrichment: Highlighting diverse historical narratives and contributions from many different cultural groups to promote inclusivity and celebrate the multicultural fabric of Noble Park. This will lead to greater social cohesion within the community.
- Community Engagement: The process of researching, designing, and installing historical signs will foster community involvement and collaboration. It encourages participation from the community, strengthening bonds and fostering a collective sense of ownership.

We will have achieved points 1 and 2 through the creation and maintenance of the signs and by engaging with the community as a part of the unveiling and through the designing of the signs with the community we will achieve points 3 and 4. By achieving these outcomes, the Historical Sign Initiative can play a vital long term role in preserving Noble Park's heritage while promoting education, cultural enrichment, and community engagement.
