Kintsugi Heroes is a small, respected, and rapidly growing not-for-profit organisation named after the Japanese art of repairing broken objects to make them more beautiful. Through Kintsugi Heroes, individuals share their personal stories of overcoming adversity, providing hope and inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
Our mission is to foster love, understanding, compassion, and connection through storytelling. We achieve this through events, podcasts, books, and photographic exhibitions.
Our programs cover various social themes, including natural disasters, migrants/refugees, men’s wellbeing, connecting seniors, and resilience through our relationship with animals.
The stories shared through Kintsugi Heroes offer a treasure trove of wisdom from inspirational Australians. By publicly sharing their stories, they demonstrate courage, self-acceptance, kindness, and love. As author Brené Brown said, "Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do."
Kintsugi Heroes' work provides healing, empowerment, a sense of community, love, and understanding. In a world fraught with fear, hatred, prejudice, and insecurity, the stories shared by Kintsugi Heroes are timely and impactful, creating a ripple effect that inspires others to overcome their challenges while promoting a culture of empathy and support.
Project Summary
Kintsugi Heroes was founded in December 2022 and although still in its infancy, it has rapidly grown with a sharp increase in the number and diversity of programs. In May/June 2024, the Board held a series of video meetings to determine the mission, values, objectives and future structure and programs. We have used video conferencing to manage our geographic spread of directors across VIC, NSW and QLD.
While the video meetings have been productive, we believe that a 3-day/4-night, face-to-face conference would be highly beneficial for the long-term effectiveness of our organisation. The opportunity to gather in person and meet new directors face to face for the first time, will allow deeper discussions, collaboration, and the creation of a unified vision and team moving forward. We have chosen Sea Star Apartments in Airlie Beach, QLD, as our destination for 4 reasons:
– Sea Star Apartments has kindly offered to support us by offering one free night, to reduce our costs.
– The penthouse has large meeting spaces, so we do not need the additional cost of hiring a conference room.
– The beautiful, tropical location will be enjoyable and rewarding for the directors who work hard for Kintsugi Heroes as volunteers.
– There are direct flights to the Proserpine Airport from Sydney and Melbourne, enabling efficient travel time.
Objectives of the Conference:
– Team Bonding: Strengthening relationships among board members through interactive team-building activities and informal networking sessions.
– Strategic Planning: Developing a comprehensive strategic plan for the next 3-5 years, including setting specific goals, identifying key priorities, and outlining actionable steps.
– Program Development: Brainstorming and refining new program ideas, enhancing existing programs, and ensuring alignment with our mission and values.
– Training and Development: Providing professional development opportunities for board members to enhance their leadership skills and organisational knowledge.
– Resource Allocation: Discussing budget priorities and resource allocation to support our expanding range of programs and initiatives.
– Community Engagement: Exploring ways to increase community involvement and support, including partnerships, sponsorships, and volunteer recruitment.
