Abbey Solo Foundation Abbey Solo Foundation

The Abbey Solo Foundation, celebtaing our 10th year in 2025, is a 100% volunteer based charity, honouring the life of young Abbey Solo who, while living with Leukemia for much of her young life, was always mindful of other young people on th esame journey. We exist to support Oncology families at Melbourne's Royal Childrens' Hospital. Imagine your child has a diagnosis of cancer and is facing lengthy stays in hospital and ever increasing cost-of-living pressures add to unimaginable stress. The future all of a sudden is unknown and is often in other people’s hands. We strive to support families with practical & timely and bespoke support that meets their expressed needs. Our support reaches families within 24 hours of requests being made by their social worker.

By assisting families with practical and bespoke support, we are directly impacting their wellbeing and allowing them to spend quality time together in hospital. While simple in scope, the impact on families is profound. By easing the ever-present financial stress of these day-to-day expenses for families facing lengthy stays in hospital we are #givingtogetherness, an enabling Abbey's legacy to live on.

Project Summary

The cost of hospital parking, adds an immeasurable burden on oncology families, at a time when their lives are turned up-side-down. Everything that was normal in their lives is now disrupted. Over the course of lengthy treatments, families have been known to spend over $10,000 on hospital parking.

We are the only foundation that provides assistance with hospital parking costs. Each $10 single-use parking pass provided to families, allows them to exit at no cost, regardless of the time they have been parked. Assistance with parking is one of a broad range of practical, timely and bespoke support we provide families. It remains one of our most impactful supports. We cannot provide enough support of this type for families.

While simple in scope, we know that the support we provide has a positive and immediate impact. Support for our drive for parking assistance will allow us to support more families with our core supports of food and fuel assistance, short term emergency accommodation for families as well as bespoke support that best meets families’ immediate needs.

Project Outcomes

Provision of 2500 single-use parking passes to oncology families.
