Doctors for the Environment Australia
Put Our Health First

GOAL
$2,500
Field of Interest
- Environment conservation and climate change
- Health/wellbeing and medical research
Target Population
- General population

Doctors for the Environment (DEA) is the leading medical voice on health and climate.
Our volunteer members use their expertise as medical doctors to influence political and public opinion on the need for climate action and the protection of our natural world. We work to protect biodiversity, knowing that the health of humans is inextricably linked with the health of our natural world. We advocate for sustainable healthcare systems to reduce the health sector's carbon footprint.
As doctors we understand that human health requires a healthy planet, with an environment that is free of pollution, rich in biodiversity, and able to provide for current and future generations sustainably.
We call for climate action in recognition of the harm to our health caused by global heating and climate change. We see first-hand how our changing climate is harming people through deadly heat, fires and bush fire smoke, drought, floods, extreme weather and sea level rise.
- We see more heart attacks, cancers, asthma, infectious diseases, kidney disease and mental illness in our clinics and emergency departments.
- We see the impact of heat and heatwaves on older people, on young people and workers.
- We see more people experiencing heat related illness, strokes, heart attacks and kidney failure. We see more people feeling suicidal and we see more domestic violence on hot days.
- We see children and pregnant women harmed by traffic-related air pollution made worse by global heating and bushfire smoke.

Project Outcomes
We are seeking to inform Australians on the disastrous health impacts of a worsening climate and educate them on actions they can take as individuals to protect themselves and the ones they love.
Success will be an informed, educated community who understand that they can take individual action to protect their health and climate and use their voice to influence future policies to ensure governments at all levels Put Our Health First.
