Run4Humanity is a non-profit organization with a passionate, dedicated and never give up mentality that is committed to bringing clean and safe water to millions of people through humanity and ultra running. Our mission is to save lives from waterborne diseases, keep children in school instead of walking for hours to fetch water, and empower women .

Our visionary founder, Vero, will be running from Alexandria to Cape Town, covering over 14,000 kilometers across 19 countries. This epic run will not only make Vero the first woman to run the length of Africa, but more importantly will bring clean, safe water to millions of people.

Our success depends on working with local water organizations to provide clean water and essential education programmes in the villages. Our motto is: Together we are stronger! We are committed to closely monitoring our impact and ensuring sustainability in every community we touch.

Throughout this journey, Vero will be a beacon of hope, celebrating each new water installation and demonstrating that water is essential and a human right . At the end of the project we will host a grand celebration led by Vero and the local artists and communities.

Your support is vital to help us achieve this transformative mission. Together, we can bring clean water, hope and a brighter future to millions of people across Africa. Thank you for considering our application and joining us on this incredible journey.

Project Summary

Run4Humanity is proud to launch our ‘Running for Change’ programme in Zambia, bringing clean and safe water to the most disadvantaged communities.

Our local partners will install the essential water infrastructure, facilitated by one of our key partners, Grundfos. Our local partners on the ground will ensure the successful implementation of these installations, bringing much needed access to water to those who need it most.

Second, in partnership with the Zambian Ministry of Water and Environment and Oxford University, we will develop and deliver an education and behaviour change programme tailored to the needs of the community, with community input. The project will be delivered by the communities in Zambia.

Vero, the founder of Run4Humanity, will run across Zambia to celebrate water and connect with communities. Her efforts will raise awareness, engage in public speaking and foster connections between communities through her runs. The culmination of this journey will be a vibrant festival of water and humanity, featuring local artists and celebrating our collective achievements.

This remarkable athletic endeavour will bring national and international attention to the project and raise funds for future initiatives. Run4Humanity supports its projects through a combination of corporate sponsorships, partnerships with various organisations, individual and corporate donations, book sales and Vero’s motivational speaking engagements.

Running for Change is the first step in our ambitious plan to run the length of Africa and bring clean, safe water to as many people as possible. Together we can change the world, one kilometre at a time!

Project Outcomes

Access to Safe Water: Providing clean and safe water reduces waterborne diseases. Access to safe water can reduce diarrhoeal diseases by up to 40% and cholera and typhoid by 50% (WHO, 2023), significantly improving health outcomes.

Educational Empowerment: Our education programme empowers communities with knowledge about water conservation, hygiene practices and sustainable water use. Involving local communities ensures the long-term adoption of best practices in water management and hygiene, promoting sustainable health and environmental benefits.

Sustainable Energy Solutions: Solar-powered water systems can reduce energy costs by up to 90% compared to diesel-powered pumps (World Bank, 2023), promoting sustainability and resilience to power shortages. Training local engineers and project managers builds capacity and ensures that the infrastructure continues to function long after the project is complete.

Enhanced Education and Economic Participation: Access to clean water will save women and children up to 200 hours per year previously spent collecting water (UNICEF, 2023). This can increase girls' school attendance by up to 20% (UNESCO, 2023) and enable greater participation in educational and economic activities.

Community Engagement and Cultural Celebrations: Cultural celebrations, such as our Festival of Water and Humanity, will strengthen community bonds and increase local engagement in water management efforts, which is critical for long-term sustainability (UNESCO, 2023).

Raising Awareness through running: Vero's run across Zambia will bring national and international attention to the project, raising awareness and funds for future initiatives. Her journey will connect communities, inspire action and celebrate water and humanity.
