Initiative for Peace and Development (IPD) is a registered not-for-profit organisation with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), dedicated to promoting peace, empowerment, and sustainable development across communities in Australia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Founded on the principles of compassion, equality, and justice, IPD works to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals—particularly youth, women, and children—through programs that foster healing, education, and opportunity. In Australia, IPD engages with African and Congolese youth through cultural, educational, and community-based initiatives. These programs aim to strengthen cultural identity, promote social inclusion, and provide safe spaces for expression through music, dance, sport, and leadership training.

IPD’s work also includes responding to community crises, offering trauma-informed healing programs such as the Rise Congo Youth Initiative, which supports young people affected by recent tragedies. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, IPD focuses on humanitarian aid, health support, education, women’s empowerment, and child protection. The organisation collaborates with local partners, health professionals, and international organisations to deliver emergency relief, combat gender-based violence, and build community resilience in conflict-affected areas.

Guided by strong safeguarding and governance frameworks, IPD ensures that all programs uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and respect for human rights.Through collaboration and compassion, Initiative for Peace and Development strives to create a world where peace, equality, and dignity are within everyone’s reach.

Project Summary

The Pathways to Peace and Prosperity – Congo project, led by the Initiative for Peace and Development (IPD), is designed to rebuild lives and strengthen resilience in conflict-affected communities across the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This project focuses on community and economic development by empowering vulnerable groups — including displaced families, women, and youth — with the tools and skills needed to achieve self-reliance and long-term stability. Through community-based training centres, IPD will provide access to vocational education, entrepreneurship programs, and small business support, enabling participants to generate income and rebuild their local economies.

The project’s education and training components will focus on equipping young people and women with practical skills such as tailoring, agriculture, carpentry, and basic financial management. Alongside these programs, IPD will promote peacebuilding and community cohesion through dialogue, awareness campaigns, and local partnerships.

By combining livelihood development with education and empowerment, the Pathways to Peace and Prosperity – Congo project aims to restore dignity, reduce poverty, and help communities transition from crisis to stability and growth.
