PROJECT SUMMARY

The inSpire Financial Wellbeing project will be a cornerstone of inSpire, inTouch’s recovery program, which supports women to thrive following their experiences of family violence. This project enhances financial and social wellbeing for migrant and refugee survivors of family violence by increasing access to financial literacy resources and education and cultivating social connections.

In the first year of a two year project, we will conduct a financial wellbeing needs assessment, develop and disseminate multilingual financial resources, establish an online resource hub, conduct culturally responsive financial literacy workshops, and train our staff in the ANZ MoneyMinded program. These initiatives aim to boost financial literacy and confidence, foster new financial behaviours, and ensure sustained access to supportive resources. With opportunities to share stories, build trust and social connections, women will also be supported to deepen their personal growth journey and build peer support networks.

As a statewide Victoria service, the project will be delivered to clients across metropolitan Melbourne and rural and regional areas, with online resources publicly available nationally.

By laying the foundation for expanded recovery support, including financial resources and referrals, inTouch/inSpire, leverages its deep experience in providing culturally and linguistically specific services to deliver significant and sustainable impacts on social and financial wellbeing. The project is supported by established partnerships within the family violence sector, ensuring a comprehensive approach that benefits participants, their families, and the wider community.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

The long-term impact we anticipate (beyond this project - 5+ years) is that migrant and refugee women recovering from family violence have expanded and supportive social networks, feel financially secure, in control of their own money and have access to financial wellbeing information and services.

After 2 years of this project, we expect that migrant and refugee women recovering from family violence will:
- Demonstrate increased financial literacy as measured by self-reported understanding of budgeting, saving, setting financial goals.
- Accurately understand where and how to seek financial information and services, verified through awareness of information and service providers compared at intake and end of project and in staff contact discussions.
- Show increased confidence in handling financial matters, assessed via self-reported confidence scales for different financial behaviours compared at intake and end of project.
- Report positive changes in their financial behaviour, such as initiating savings plans and making informed budgeting decisions as measured by frequency of behaviours at intake compared with the end of project.
• Have increased social connections and peer support.
