PROJECT SUMMARY
The Aunty Gal’s vision is to create an empowering intergenerational women’s community where women support each other’s growth and healing, with a goal is to become an established group with our own space, equipment and a yearly holiday program for kids.
The Aunty Gals meet weekly for 4-5 hours to engage in activities chosen by the group like painting, mosaic art, vision boards and digital art classes. We go on day trips to places the women are interested in visiting and hold special events like ‘Mothers Day by the River’, birthdays, barbecues, pamper days and more. The Aunty Gals provide opportunities for women to gain confidence, learn new skills, gain cultural knowledge and resilience and experience support through mutual healing from intergenerational trauma. We also want to collaborate with local playgroups, so that the kids have an activity during our gatherings.
We are seeking philanthropic support that will help us to meet our immediate term goals, and support us to work towards our long term goals, as outlined below:
Immediate term goals (3-12 months):
– Hold regular weekly gathering for sharing, activities, workshops and classes;
– Go on day-trips of interest to our members;
– Acquire electronics such as iPads and computers for digital art, classes etc.
– Establish our own gathering space with a children’s space, kitchen and bathroom facilities
– Secure a bus for group transportation to events and trips
– Create Aunty Gals merchandise
Long term goals (1-5 years)
– Become an established organisation with our own equipment;
– Develop an annual holiday program for kids
– Partner with a local playgroup to provide childcare during gatherings
– Expand capacity to welcome more women and mothers in the community
– Offer accredited courses and programs beyond the Aunty Gals
– Share our model with other communities to create support groups
We will also build partnerships with local businesses, TAFE, community organisations and the Neighbourhood House to develop additional resources and opportunities.
