PROJECT SUMMARY

This Story Australia is offering a digital platform for our First Nations veterans to share their stories. Over the next two years, it is our intention to create a collection of First Nations veterans stories that explore the truths and challenges of being an Indigenous serviceman or woman.

After a successful pilot project in the Torres Strait and Central Queensland in 2023, This Story Australia is seeking funding to help us take the project nationally.

The Compilation video for the project (which premiered at the ANZAC Square Galleries in November of 2023) can be accessed here:

PROJECT OUTCOMES

This Story Australia wants to collect 30 unique First Nations veterans stories and assemble the interviews into a feature length documentary that will engage and connect Australia. For us to empathise with one another there must be a connection. This Story Australia would like to help facilitate this connection through the sharing of stories.

The goal is to publish the feature length documentary online, through a streaming service and through broadcast media to ensure its audience is wide-spread.

Profile of This Story Australia

This Story Australia

This Story Australia preserves the personal stories of our veterans in documentary interviews. Too many of our veterans stories go with them to the grave, and too many of our younger veterans do not have a platform to share their experiences. This Story Australia provides the platform for stories and shares them with the community through the network of Australia's Libraries, our website and gives the final product to veteran's families for no cost.
