SUPPORTING LGBTQIA+ REFUGEES AND PEOPLE SEEKING ASYLUM
Pride Foundation Australia (PFA) and Sidney Myer Fund (SMF) have announced their next large grant round to a total value of $20,000 with a focus on supporting sexuality, sex and gender diverse (LGBTQIA+) refugees and people seeking asylum.
Grant applications should be to the value of up to $20,000 over two years (if applicable).

ABOUT PRIDE FOUNDATION AUSTRALIA
Pride Foundation Australia (PFA) is a national philanthropic foundation specifically focused on funding lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual and other (LGBTQIA+) community issues in Australia. The Foundation advocates for systemic change to advance LGBTQIA+ equity and inclusion and provide direct support to affected communities / individuals.
Pride Foundation Australia raises awareness of LGBTQIA+ disadvantage and works to increase philanthropic support for the Australian LGBTQIA+ and allied communities through fundraising, grant giving, collaboration and commissioning projects. The Foundation’s specific LGBTQIA+ priority areas to date have been: healthy ageing, homelessness and disability, asylum seekers and refugees living in Australia as well as visual, literacy and performing arts.

Eligibility
Who can apply?
Organisational status that is recognised through incorporation, a registered Australian charity with deductible gift recipient item 1 (DGR1) or deductible gift recipient item 2 (DGR2) status. Individuals cannot apply.
Exclusions
The following activities will not be funded:
- Capital and building works, vehicles, furniture or equipment,
- General fundraising,
- Travel, books, religious activities.
Funding considerations
Projects that are collaborations between refugee and asylum seeker agencies or groups and LGBTQIA+ agencies or groups are encouraged.
Where an LGBTQIA+ refugee-led group is partnership with another organisation, PFA encourages equal partnership and co-design. Projects should aim to support sexuality, sex and gender diverse (LGBTQIA+) people who are refugees or seeking asylum in at least one of the following areas:
- Improving access to stable housing,
- Enhancing education and/or workforce participation,
- Enhancing support for community connection and improving settlement outcomes,
- Improving health and/or health literacy,
- Supporting links to LGBTQIA+ services and supports,
- Enhancing cultural engagement and development,
- Improving LGBTQIA+ inclusive practice in services.
Types of projects with a duration of up to two years may include any of the following:
- Community development, or
- Education and training initiatives, or
- Health and wellbeing initiatives, or
- Applied, community-led research with tangible outcomes in the field, or
- Events including arts and cultural or conferences.

Expression of interests and grant applications must be submitted via Australian Communities Foundation’s grants portal here (access code: PFASMF2023). Please register for the Australian Communities Foundation Grants Portal.
If you already have an account through Australian Communities Foundation, please use your existing username and password. Make sure to note your username and password as you will be able to save and continue the form at a later date.
Timeframes
- Expressions of interests (EOIs) are open from Tuesday, 14 March 2023 to 5pm AEST on Monday, 24 April 2023.
- Shortlisted EOIs will be invited to submit a grant application by Friday, 12 May 2023.
- Grant applications must be submitted by 5pm AEST on Friday, 26 May 2023.
- Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by end June 2023.
- Grants will be paid from mid July 2023.
All applications must be submitted in full including any supporting documentation by 5pm AEST on the closing date. Any incomplete applications or applications received after 5pm AEST will be treated as ineligible.
