Boys to the Bush (BttB) is a prevention and early intervention organisation supporting at-risk males aged 8-25 in regional NSW and Victoria. Founded in 2017 by three teachers who witnessed too many young men falling through the cracks, BttB creates practical connections between marginalised youth and their communities.
Our approach proves that simplicity can address complex challenges effectively. We listen and we care; helping disengaged youth discover purpose while connecting them with supportive people and places in their regional community via 1:1 Mentoring, Camps and School Programs.
We believe that regional communities have everything in place already to support their own vulnerable youth – what’s lacking is connection points and practical opportunities to participate. Local farms and businesses welcome boys on structured program visits; showcasing skills and work activities that may inspire career paths and address regional labour shortages. Young men channel their energy into practical tasks—from helping with seasonal farm work to accessing work experience and apprenticeships. We give back to our communities too – role modelling that being part of community means lending support to others.
Guided by core values of respect, engagement and community, BttB’s motto is “It’s easier to build a strong boy than repair a broken man.” From a foundational period of rapid growth (2017-2023), in 2024-25 BttB entered a consolidation and responsible scaling phase. Top priority for 2025-27 is sustainability through standardised procedures, financial responsibility and revenue diversity.
