Football Integration Development Association

FIDA (Football Integration Development Association) has been at the forefront of creating an inclusive community where people with an intellectual disability can actively participate in Australian Rules football without barriers. For over 30 years FIDA has worked to promote equality & provide opportunities for people with an intellectual disability to enjoy the sport on the same level as their peers. The FIDA league is community of 31 teams & over 800 players across metropolitan and regional Victoria. We are dedicated to advancing social welfare, education, & health within the intellectual disability community through Australian Rules football.

Our Purpose – Through Australian Rules football, FIDA provides our players and clubs with a sense of belonging and the opportunity to be a valued, included and independent member of the community.

Our core activity is running the FIDA league & competition which runs from April/May through until August, culminating in the Grand Final. We run four Tackle Free Carnivals during the year that provide an opportunity for people who may not be able to participate in the FIDA league to play AFL in a team. We are implementing training & capacity building for clubs; reviewing our website for accessibility and improved engagement with clubs; investing in organisational compliance & lived experience; & investigating establishing a youth & women’s competition.
