Touching Base

Touching Base Inc is a charitable organisation, based in Sydney NSW Australia, that has been active since October 2000.

Touching Base developed out of the need to assist people with disability and sex workers to connect with each other, focusing on access, discrimination, human rights and legal issues and the attitudinal barriers that these two marginalised communities can face. Our activities include:

-responding to enquiries to access sex workers by people with a disability and their carers.
-operating a referral database of accessible commercial sex services premises and independent sex workers who are willing or have experience or training, to provide non-discriminatory services to people with disability.
-Providing training for people with a disability, their carers and professional service providers and sex workers.
-Developing training resources to encourage better practice when accessing sex services.
-Raising public and professional awareness of the issues surrounding access to and provision of Sex Industry services for people with a disability.

We hope to achieve funding next year to develop a series of videos called Intimate Inclusion: People with Disability Navigating Sexual Supports. This innovative project will produce six accessible video testimonials featuring people with disability who share their lived experiences navigating sexual supports. These videos, with an accompanying advocacy toolkit, will serve as vital self-advocacy resources, empowering disabled adults to overcome societal barriers and lead sexually fulfilling lives. We are very keen to receive funding to redesign our website in order to improve its accessibility and functionality.
