You Belong Australia

You Belong is a registered Australian charity empowering refugees, whom we call Waymakers to thrive in inclusive communities. Founded by humanitarian leaders with lived experience in conflict and cross-cultural work, we exist to see every Waymaker welcomed, equipped, and empowered to lead a flourishing life in Australia.

Newly arrived refugees often face barriers of isolation, language, and access to opportunity. You Belong bridges this gap through community-based programs that build connection, confidence, and independence, such as English classes, learner driver mentoring, women’s empowerment, youth leadership, and social inclusion initiatives.

With offices in Toowoomba and the Gold Coast, our programs are co-designed and led by staff who are themselves former refugees, ensuring authenticity and trust within the communities we serve.

Since 2017, You Belong has supported more than 5,000 refugees and asylum seekers across Queensland. Participants report stronger social networks, greater confidence, and increased engagement in education and employment.

Our current priorities include expanding the EmpowerHer women’s leadership program, strengthening our Learner Driver Mentor and Good Neighbour initiatives, and growing our volunteer base to reach 1,500 new Waymakers in 10 communities by 2026.
