Project Summary

The Catapult Mentorship is an artist-led mentorship that pays both the artist and the mentor for their time. The program empowers artists at every stage of their career to develop their artistic practice, grow their audiences and pursue their boldest creative ambitions.

Mentees engage with a mentor of their choosing, based locally, nationally or internationally. Guildhouse works with the mentee to define goals for the mentorship and supports the participants throughout, ensuring that the program stays on track.

To date, Guildhouse has successfully provided over 60 Catapult mentorships to visual artists, craft makers and designers, including tailored mentorships for First Nations artists and regionally based artists.

Catapult is underpinned by Mentor Mentee, an important research study produced in partnership with the University of South Australia, which examines the transformative impact of mentorships on artistic careers over time.

Applications for Catapult outnumber available opportunities every year. We are seeking new supporters to expand this unique and highly regarded program, to ‘catapult’ the future of Australian arts and culture.

Project Outcomes

It is not uncommon for Catapult recipients to report that this program has changed their professional practice (and sometimes, even their life). Artists gain the confidence to pursue their most audacious dreams and goals. The connections made between mentor and mentee endure well beyond the formal mentorship period, leading to lifelong collaboration and professional networks. Past recipients have gone on to receive international residencies, prizes and awards, to change their approach to practice, or to become teachers and mentors themselves.
