The Metropolitan Male Choir of South Australia Inc, established in 1927, aims to support the social, physical & emotional wellbeing of men who like to sing. We rehearse weekly at the Cumberland Park Community Centre to prepare a varied repertoire to a performance level of proficiency.
We engage the services of a highly skilled Music Director with excellent teaching ability, together with an outstanding piano accompanist.
Choristers enjoy great camaraderie and the thrill of performing in several concerts each year, highlighted by our annual Variety Concert in the Norwood Concert Hall and Christmas Concert in the Adelaide University's Elder Hall. Part proceeds of these concerts support Guide Dogs SA/NT and The Smith Family Charity. In addition, the Choir preforms in aid of many community organisations, contributing to their fundraising efforts for worthy causes.
The Choir runs our own Scholarship Program for young musicians (12-18) with $3500 in monetary awards and performance opportunities at our concerts.
The MMCSA has a reputation for performance excellence and has toured overseas as well as to regional areas. We currently have 53 members, with an average age of about 65. Hence we are very keen to promote choral singing as a great activity for men to ensure our future viability as a well-managed organisation fulfilling a valuable role for men and doing good works in the community.
The MMCSA has tax-deductibility status via the Australian Cultural Fund.
