3CR Community Radio

3CR Community Radio is a licensed broadcaster based in Fitzroy, Naarm/Melbourne. We gained our licence in 1976 and currently produce over 100 unique local shows every week. We have First Nations, disability, LGBTIQA+, environmental, community language, emerging communities, union and activist programming content and volunteers. We are powered by nearly 400 volunteers from diverse backgrounds, a small 7-person staff team and broadcast/studio technicians.

3CR community radio provides a media space enabling progressive communities to voice ideas and build their power to create social change. We provide training and resourcing to our volunteer cohort and build their capacity for media production and presentation. Listeners tune into 3CR to hear community voices, alternative perspectives, coverage of local news and events as well local live music, arts and culture. The station provides vital community connections, information, entertainment and education.

The station proudly supports a diverse range of volunteers to create their own shows and to have a voice on the issues that are important to them. We have a 50-year history of amplifying grassroots community voices, and a strong financial and governance record. 3CR holds a deeply informed and radical philosophy of what radio and community media can be. Through our program content, we advocate and agitate for social and political justice and transformation. Through our organisational model, we show how radical, independent media gives power to communities. The station relies on the financial support of the community and proudly progressive funders to achieve its aims.
