Community radio station 94.7 The Pulse serves the whole population in the city of Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula, the Surf Coast, Golden Plains and west to Lara and Werribee. It has an important grassroots local focus in an area where mainstream media comprise two commercial music stations and a News Corporation newspaper, plus many Melbourne media that have little interest in the concerns of The Pulse’s area.
We offer a diverse range of programming including ethnic language programs, current affairs, religion, sport, local and diverse music, arts, environmental concerns and LGBTQIA+ matters. We broadcast the annual Pako Festa and the local football live. Links with local community groups facilitate this programming.
From July 2025, The Pulse has operated as an independent incorporated association, staffed overwhelmingly by volunteers, and therefore is facing new challenges. We believe that we are working energetically and co-operatively and making progress towards a solid ongoing future. In many ways, we are listener-funded radio, but the budget is tight and we need constantly to seek other funding. Volunteer time and energy have their limits, but we are determined to continue our 37-year trajectory and foresee that our achievements and optimism will earn financial, as well as moral, support.
