Alex Makes Meals (AMM) is a Melbourne-based public benevolent charity that prepares and distributes fresh, nutritious meals to people experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, family violence, disability, and social isolation.
Founded in 2020 as a grassroots response to the COVID-19 lockdowns, AMM has grown into a trusted food relief partner for more than 45 frontline community organisations across metropolitan Melbourne. We currently produce and distribute over 3,000 fresh meals every week, using food as a dignified, relationship-based entry point to broader support services.
Our meals are not a standalone charity—they are embedded within existing community services. Caseworkers, social workers, and community health teams use AMM meals to build trust, reduce stigma, and support people to engage with housing, healthcare, mental health, legal, and financial services.
To date, AMM has delivered over 1,200,000 fresh meals, operating a highly cost-effective, volunteer-powered model that prioritises dignity, cultural inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.
