The ATG has been planting trees across the Northern Tablelands of NSW and adjacent regions for 40 years. In that time, we have planted over 2 million trees and currently propagate approximately 100,000 trees per year. Our aim with these plantings is to maintain and restore local vegetation and create habitat for native species.
The plants we propagate are largely grown from locally collected seed and therefore are well suited to restoring local environments. Initially the ATG was established to support Eucalypt populations that were suffering from dieback due to herbivorous insect infestations. Nowadays our aims are more broadly targeted toward re-establishment of vegetation on cleared farmland, creating connecting corridors between areas of remanent bushland and protecting and restoring remnant native vegetation.
Recent and on-going projects include:
– Providing habitat restoration and vegetation corridors for koala populations (> 20,000 trees)
– Farm plantings (up to 8,000 trees per farm)
– Stewardship of sites endangered native species (contracted by the NSW National Parks Service)
– Managing two Crown Land Reserves where we are restoring native habitat (totalling approximately 30 hectares).
