Asylum Seeker Centre
Target Population
- Asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and people from CALD backgrounds
- People experiencing socio-economic disadvantage or vulnerability
The Asylum Seekers Centre is a place of welcome and support. We provide practical help for people seeking asylum in Greater Sydney and advocate for fair and humane policies for refugees and people seeking asylum. We support people in a time of limbo.
People seeking asylum can wait years for their refugee applications to be processed – the Asylum Seekers Centre helps with practical support in the meantime.
Under international law, everyone has the right to seek safety from persecution.
But after arriving in Australia, many people wait years for outcomes to their asylum applications. As they wait on temporary visas, they face many challenges. People seeking asylum can’t access Centrelink or government income support, and face barriers to work, study and social connections.
The Asylum Seekers Centre is a place of welcome and provides practical and personal support for people living in the community who are seeking asylum.
We are a not-for-profit organisation with a voluntary Board of Directors. We rely on philanthropic grants, individual donations, some state government support, a dedicated team of professional staff and a network of more than 400 volunteers to undertake our work.
