Organisation Summary

Australians for Mental Health is a national campaign & advocacy organisation, founded by 2010 Australian of the Year Prof. Patrick McGorry, that aims to reshape our country so that mental health and well-being across the whole population can thrive, and challenge the policies, practices and attitudes that exacerbate mental harm.

We are doing that with three key focus areas:
– Engaging with communities to bring people together to identify local mental health and wellbeing needs, and supporting the grassroots leadership, relationships and strategy needed to achieve them;
– Bring together a broad alliance of diverse civil society players (community services, religious, trade union, sport, arts, environment) that share an interest in mental health from different perspectives and craft a shared agenda for structural reform in mental health;
– Build on increasing awareness and concern about mental health issues by adding a focus on the public policy reform questions that need action at a political level.

We value our fierce independence and do not receive government funding.
