The BBM Global Footprints Scholarships are a life changing experience for young people who have outstanding potential to become future leaders. They are unique as they are the only scholarships that focus on work experience for young people in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, specifically in agriculture, horticulture and trades. These are industries where Australia has skills shortages and needs to quickly transition to new sustainable practices. Global Footprints Scholarships are provided as self-directed career development opportunities that inspire and empower young people, broaden their horizons, and connect them to global best practices, overseas experiences, coaching and mentoring, and with many training in world renowned organisations.

Investing in youth to lead the way to sustainable practices is crucial due to the emerging climate crisis. The Australian economy is forecast to suffer “cumulative losses of $2.7 trillion from the effects of climate change” (University of Melb), together with the shortage of skilled workers. VET is key to developing practical skills over theoretical knowledge, yet scholarships are very limited. BBM wants to invest in building a workforce to assist the transition to a more sustainable future. Research has demonstrated that for every $1 invested in a Global Footprints Scholarship, a significant $9.34 of social value is created, positively impacting individuals, their industries, community and the environment.
